The Kansas City Renaissance Festival takes fantasy lovers back in time to the age of King Henry the Eighth for eight weekends from Labor Day to Columbus Day.

The 2008 Kansas City Renaissance Festival brings to life the era of King Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn. The medieval themed festival takes place on weekends from Labor Day to Columbus Day, August 30 through October 13. The ren-faire is a chance for an immersion into another time and place. Stroll the grounds of the 16th century marketplace and talk to lavishly dressed lords and ladies of the royal realm.

The popular festival is now in its 30th year and provides an enchanting escape from presents day concerns. Stroll the grounds on 16 acres of shaded lanes. Over 500 costumed characters add to the atmosphere and interact with guests. Stop and enjoy the soothing sounds of harp and mandolin music. Experience the excitement of the joust, with brave knights clad in armor duel on horseback to win the Queen's honor.

New entertainment this year includes: the Washer Well Wench Show, Bagpipe Shows from Tartanic, Elven Enchantress singing original music in Tolkien Elvish, Maiden's Whymsie, Gypsy Musical and Barbarian Battles.

The marketplace features over 162 shops with vendors selling their unique wares, such as medieval clothing, jewelry, art, souvenirs and more. The Children's Realm is filled with games, shows and crafts. Feat of festival food, such as giant turkey legs, corn on the cob and chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick.

Themed Weekend Schedule

Each weekend has an unique theme, so that there is something new every visit.

  • Opening Weekend, August 30, 31 and September 1: A Royal Affair. The theme is love and romance.
  • September 6 and 7. Enchanted Tales is a weekend of fantasy.
  • September 13 and 14: The Mystic Bazaar and Red Hat Society Weekend.
  • September 20 and 21. Scotland the Brave features Scottish Highland Games and Clans
  • September 27 and 28. A Taste of Canterbury
  • October 4 and 5: Beauty and the Beasts. Pets and animals come to the village. Weekend features herding demos, pet contest, pet rescue and dog races.
  • October 11, 12 and 13. The Spirit of Adventure./ Halloween comes early to the village.

The Wedding of the Century

Wedding vows and vow renewals are held on Sunday, October 5 and noon at Shadowgate Downs. Couples who wish for a real ceremony should bring a Kansas marriage license and $50 to cover incidentals. The KC Ren Faire provides the minister, four tickets (for the couple and two witnesses) and a cake and punch reception. The application is on the official KC Renfest website.

Special Daily Events

  • Queen's Tea: Enjoy a lovely tea with the queen in the new High Tea Room in Wildwood. The tea room overlooks the Royal Garden. Enjoy a refreshing cup of tea, scones, Devonshire Cream, Crumpets, Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Triffle. The tea is held daily at 2 pm. Tickets are $9.95. Seating is limited so purchase tickets at the front gate or in advance. 1-800-373-0357.
  • Royal Cigar Smoker. The smoker is hosted by the Lord Mayor. Enjoy premium cigars, lively spirits and snacks all around. Bawdy entertainment and Belly Dancing begins daily at 4:30 pm in the Royal Deck in the Wildwood, next to the Chapel. Must be 21+.

Tickets and General Information

The Kansas City Renaissance Festival takes place weekends, Labor Day through Columbus Day from August 31 through October 13, 2008. Hours are 10 am to 7 pm.

The medieval adventure takes place in Bonner Springs, Kansas, just 15 minutes and 500 years from downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

Adult ticket prices at the gate are $16.95 for adults and $8.95 for children. Students and seniors are $15.0-.

Two day passes are $27. Season Passes are $64.95 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under.
